7 pm in Mumbai: the US session in IST
When US markets open in India, what pre- and after-market mean, and why leverage changes outside regular hours.
New York's stock market opens at 9:30 am and closes at 4 pm, New York time. In India that lands in the evening, which is why US stocks fit around a day job.
| Session (New York) | US summer (mid-March to early November) | US winter |
|---|---|---|
| Pre-market 4:00–9:30 am | 1:30 pm – 7:00 pm IST | 2:30 pm – 8:00 pm IST |
| Regular 9:30 am–4:00 pm | 7:00 pm – 1:30 am IST | 8:00 pm – 2:30 am IST |
| After-market 4:00–8:00 pm | 1:30 am – 5:30 am IST | 2:30 am – 6:30 am IST |
India doesn't change its clocks; the US does. So the open moves by an hour twice a year: 7 pm IST in the US summer, 8 pm in the US winter.
What changes outside regular hours
Fewer people trade before the open and after the close, so prices jump more easily. Moveintrade's terminal is designed to follow the clock:
- Regular hours: your tier's full leverage.
- Pre- and after-market: half of it.
- Overnight and weekends (and US market holidays): prices follow the reference venue, and new positions are capped at 5×.
The ticket always shows the session you are in and the leverage you can use right now. Closing a position is never limited.
Demo money only. Moveintrade is not live and does not open trading accounts yet. Leverage magnifies losses as much as gains: most retail derivatives traders lose money.
